For the first time since the pandemic began there have been zero deaths in the UK in the 28 days following a positive test.

Although case numbers in Cornwall have risen slightly and nationally they remain above 3,000.

Despite the Indian variant seeing a rise in cases, the prime minister Boris Johnson has said he has seen no evidence to change course on the lifting of lockdown on June 21.

Today's Covid update shows five new case of the virus for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly in the last 24 hours, a rise from one yesterday, which puts the overall total since the start of the pandemic at 14,322.

Weekly cases, which are on a delay, have dropped by one again to 22 in the seven days leading up to May 26 – the most recent five days not shown due to incomplete data – a fall from 23 yesterday.

The weekly case rate for Cornwall has fallen to 3.8 cases per 100,000 people from four yesterday.

The number of people testing positive for coronavirus in the UK increased by 3,165 in 24 hours. This takes the total to 4,490,438 nationally since the start of the pandemic.

NHS England hospital daily figures are now being published every weekday, rather than every day.

Friday's data showed no new deaths in Cornwall, with the combined number of Covid-19 deaths in total in Cornwall’s hospitals since the start of the pandemic still at 265.

Wednesday, May 19 saw the first Covid-related death at a hospital since April 23 and brought the total to 203 at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust, while at the Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust it remains at 62.

The overall number of deaths in Cornwall – including deaths in care homes and other settings – remains at 470 in the 28 days after a positive test.

The number of deaths simply with Covid-19 on the death certificate remains at 570 in the most recent data available, as this figure is updated weekly on a Tuesday. It included no new deaths in the week leading up to Friday, May 7, the most recent date given.

The overall UK figures show for the first time no one has died within 28 days of their first positive test result. This means the total UK deaths within 28 days stays at 127,782. These figures include people in care home and other settings.

Up to the end of Monday, May 31 a total of 39,477,158 people in the UK have received their first Covid-19 vaccination dose, while 25,734,719 people have had their second dose.
