AFTER yesterday's zero deaths in the UK, sadly today's figures show 12 people have died while the number of cases have gone up by more than a thousand on yesterday's figures.

Today's Covid update shows ten new case of the virus for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly in the last 24 hours, a rise from five yesterday, which puts the overall total since the start of the pandemic at 14,332.

Weekly cases, which are on a delay, have dropped by two to 20 in the seven days leading up to June 1, a fall from 22 yesterday.

The weekly case rate for Cornwall has fallen to 3.5 cases per 100,000 people from 3.8 yesterday.

The number of people testing positive for coronavirus in the UK increased by 4,330 in 24 hours, from 3,165 yesterday. This takes the total to 4,494,699 nationally since the start of the pandemic.

NHS England hospital daily figures are now being published every weekday, rather than every day.

Friday's data shows no new deaths in Cornwall, with the combined number of Covid-19 deaths in total in Cornwall’s hospitals since the start of the pandemic still at 265.

There have been 203 deaths at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust, while at the Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust it stands at 62.

The overall number of deaths in Cornwall – including deaths in care homes and other settings – remains at 470 in the 28 days after a positive test.

The number of deaths simply with Covid-19 on the death certificate remains at 570 in the most recent data available, as this figure is updated weekly on a Tuesday. It included no new deaths in the week leading up to Friday, May 21, the most recent date given.

The overall UK figures show that 12 people have died within 28 days of their first positive test result, from zero yesterday. This means the total UK deaths within 28 days stands at 127,794. These figures include people in care home and other settings.

Up to the end of Tuesday, June 1 a total of 39,585,665 people in the UK have received their first Covid-19 vaccination dose, while 26,073,284 people have had their second dose.
