A MAN stuck up to his knees in tidal mud and unable to move had to be rescued by the coastguard after he was spotted by a passing dog walker.

Emergency services were called out to Gorran Gorras Creek, Penryn this afternoon (June 2) after receiving reports of a man stuck in the mud.

Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team, Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service, Bristol Ambulance EMS and Full Time Senior Coastal Operations Officers S11B and S11D were all in attendance following the incident at 1.45pm this afternoon.

Once they arrived the man was found around 30 meters from the shore and stuck up to his knees and unable to free himself. Luckily he was spotted by a passing dog walker.

Along with fire and rescue personnel, specialist coastguard mud rescue technicians were deployed and used a mud lance (a device that injects air and water around a stuck object) and some digging with shovels, to release the man who was eventually released and returned to shore. He was then handed over to waiting ambulance paramedics for a check over.

"Once complete, we stood down and returned to station for a lengthy clean down," said the coastguard rescue team in a Facebook post.

A report from Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews on three appliances from Falmouth Community Fire Station attended an incident involving an individual stuck in mud.

"The crews worked alongside a whole time officer, the coastguard team and ambulance personnel to safely extricate the person, using an inflatable raft and water rescue equipment."
