Today marks National Fish and Chip Day and we are fortunate have such a wide selection of quality fish and chip shops on our doorstep.

Here are the top ten in Cornwall according to TripAdvisor.

1. The Coddy Shack - Looe

The best place for fish and chips in the county according to TripAdvisor, this restaurant/takeaway boasts an impressive four and a half bubble rating with over two thousand reviews. Visitors have highlighted the freshness of the food as one of this restaurant's most outstanding features. With the calamari, the mussels and of course the fish and chips being some of the most popular dishes. Launched in 2010 originally as just a takeaway the Shack has evolved into an established restaurant that also is a live music venue.

2. The Three Pilchards - Polperro

Closely following up in second place is the Three Pilchards in Polperro, this place which rocks more a pub vibe than a restaurant also has a four and a half bubble rating as well as nearing 2,500 reviews. The classic fish and chips and scampi are among the 'Pilchards Favourites'. The pub is also renowned for being super dog friendly, and its welcoming staff make the atmosphere enjoyable for all.

3. Harbour Lights Fish and Chips - Falmouth

It is an honour to have one of the best chippies in the county within walking distance! The Harbour Lights offers an extensive variety of fish and boasts a National Federation of Fish Friers award. In 2019 they also were among the top ten fish and chip places in the UK! It has a 100 seater restaurant as well as an extremely popular takeaway service. Situated virtually next door to Trago Mills on the bustling main street of Falmouth it is easy to locate and always attracting customers.

4. The Blue Peter Inn - Polperro

Another high scoring restaurant in Polperro. The Blue Peter situated just footsteps away from the harbour offers live music and an array of fish meals including platters and chef specials. Their motto: "enter as strangers, leave as friends" is one of the many reasons why their friendly nature and welcoming staff are commonly complimented on Tripadvisor.

It looks like Boris Johnson and his G7 associates may need to check this place out over the next few days! Tripadvisor has Harbour Fish and Chips as the number one chippy in St Ives. Reviews suggest that their batter is unbeatable. Like many other places on this list, it offers takeaway and eat in options with both menus offering extensive amounts of fish to either have battered or grilled.

6. The Fishermans Chippy - Mevagissey

This chippy differs from the others on the list as it has its own on the road takeaway van. Meaning that you don't have to go to Mevagissey to taste their cuisine! The restaurant's Facebook page is regularly updated letting customers know when and where the van will be on that day. The chippy also offers a diverse menu, with delicacies such as Thai Fish Curry bites and a few different variations of loaded chips which look incredible!

7. Fraser's Fish and Chips - Penzance

The Penzance branch of Frasers has made it into the top ten! Owned by the same people who own Harbour Lights in Falmouth, Fraser's has a four and a half bubble rating with just over 500 reviews. Customers rave about the 'perfect chips', 'excellent service' and 'extensive menu'.

8. Pennycomequick - Falmouth

Another Falmouth entry in the top ten! The Pennycomequick gastropub opposite the moor has a five bubble rating. The pub which has a 'cosy, friendly atmosphere' isn't necessarily a chippy but its Korev Battered Fish and Chips are a favourite amongst customers. Reviews suggest that the triple cooked truffle chips are out of this world!

9. Becks Fish and Chips - St Ives

The second St Ives entry on this list has expanded from just a takeaway to a 100 seater restaurant. It prides itself on being "the only fish and chip shop in a six mile radius that offers gluten-free products". All types of fish can be made to be gluten-free, and a number of their reviews hype about how good their extensive food menu is!

10. Peckish Fish and Chips - Camelford

Last but certainly not least is the Peckish Fish and Chips takeaway in Camelford in North Cornwall. This chippy takes pride in its sustainability, the freshness of its products and the latest technology equipment they use to cook the food. Since opening in January 2009 the chippy has won the best fish and chip shop in the southwest award and have been the runner up in the nationwide category. The efficient service they provide, and great produce are a couple of things customers delight about on Tripadvisor!
