More than 600 homes were left without power in the Falmouth and Penryn area this lunchtime as a result of a widespread powercut.

The biggest incident has been in Falmouth, where at one point 568 properties were without electricity, following a 'high voltage' incident report at 11.57am today (Friday).

However, in the last few minutes this has been downgraded to 32 properties, after Western Power Distribution were able to reconnect a significant number.

Those still with issues are reported to be in the TR11 4SN, TR11 4RU.

They are expected to have the situation resolved by 1.30pm.

Western Power said: "We are aware of this power cut incident, which was raised at 11.57am this morning and our engineers are working to get the power returned as quickly as possible.

"We are sorry for any inconvenience this is causing you.

"We estimate the problem will be resolved by 13.30pm."

A further 58 homes in Penryn are also without power, in the TR10 8RJ, TR10 8ZW, TR10 8RL, TR10 8NW, TR10 8QQ postcodes.

This has been described as a 'low voltage' incident, first reported at 11.43am and expected to be resolved by 2.30pm today.

And in Carnon Downs, 78 properties have also been affected by power loss.

The lights went off at 10.12am and residents can expect to be without electricity until 2.30pm.

The following postcodes are said to be involved: TR3 7FR, TR3 7NL, TR3 7LF, TR3 7NN, TR3 7NG, TR3 7NW, TR3 7LQ, TR3 7LJ, TR3 7LH, TR3 7NJ, TR3 7RW, TR3 7LG, TR3 7NQ, TR3 7NP and TR3 7LE.
