An inquest has been opened into the death of woman in Helston that resulted in a murder investigation.

She has now been officially named as 62-year-old Alison Stevenson of Meneage Road.

The inquest opening last Friday heard that she died on May 25 this year. The hearing was then adjourned to a later date, still to be decided.

Police were called to an address in Meneage Road last month, where officers found a 62-year-old woman with neck injuries. She was declared deceased at the scene.

A 24-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder. He is due to answer police bail next week, on June 26.

Police have reassured the public that there is no risk to the public, with one of the bail conditions being that he does not enter Helston.

A police spokesperson said: "All relevant immediate safeguarding guarding measures have been put in place.

"There is currently no risk to the public from the suspect and this will be kept under regular review."

Devon and Cornwall Police has said officers would like to hear from anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity, or anything out of the ordinary, in the Greenbank, Bullock Lane and Meneage Street areas of Helston between the evening of Monday, May 24 and the morning of Tuesday, May 25.
