AN investigation has been launched after fire crews in Cornwall spent the night battling a house fire in Redruth.

Emergency services were called to the property in Treskerby, Redruth at 2.30am after a 999 call was made reporting a heavily smoke logged house.

The people inside had been alerted by their smoke alarm and dialled 999.

The occupants had made their way to safety by the time the crew from Tolvaddon arrived but the incident commander immediately asked for help after realising that the loft was well alight.

Two more crews from Perranporth and Falmouth were sent to the scene along with an Incident Command Unit from St Just and and Operational Support Vehicle from Falmouth.

The Red Cross Emergency Response Team was also sent while crews using breathing apparatus and hose jets fought the fire.

It took until 6am in the morning before the fire was finally put out.

A report from the critical control centre said: "Critical Control Centre received a 999 call reporting a heavily smoke logged property and a fire in the loft space of the property. All occupants were able to leave the property whilst crews from Tolvaddon Community Fire Station were alerted.

"On arrival crews were faced with smoke issuing from the property and the incident commander requested two more appliances. Alongside the two appliances (Falmouth and Perranporth), two wholetime officers, an Incident Command Unit (St Just) and Operational Support Vehicle (Falmouth) were also mobilised.

"At 0253hrs the Incident Commander reported that the loft space was well alight and requested assistance from the Red Cross Emergency Response vehicle, based at Tolvaddon Fire Station.

An update at 3.30am reported: "Crews are using breathing apparatus, hose reel jets and a main jet to firefight. Gas and electricity supplies to the property have been isolated."

In the final update at 6am it reported:

"Fire has now been extinguished. An initial fire investigation is being carried out. Appliances are now starting to leave the incident ground."
