A gin made by a Falmouth-based distiller has found its way to the glasses of Prime Ministers and Presidents.

The Falmouth Distilling Co, created by two chefs and a scientist during lockdown, was chosen to be served at the opening dinner of the G7 Leaders Summit last week.

The request for their product to be served to leaders of the seven most advanced economies on the planet is all the more impressive when considering the company has only be in existence since spring of 2020 and started selling their gin eight weeks ago.

Chloe Gillatt, one of the founders of The Falmouth Distilling Co, said: "It came out of nowhere, so we were very surprised.

"It's a fantastic thing for a tiny new business to be able to do that.

"We're pretty over the moon about it to be honest."

Founded by chefs Daisy Hillier and Chloe Gillatt, and scientist Ruth Warfield, The Falmouth Distilling Co was founded in June 2020 with the aim of producing small batch spirits, with the company's focus being on flavour, craftsmanship and design.

Speaking about the role the company's background has on their gin, Chloe said: "Falmouth has been our inspiration for this first offering.

"The landscape, food, art, people and goings-on are what made us all move here years ago, so a celebration of our hometown seemed like the perfect place to start.

"The breezy, coastal-inspired flavour of the gin, the locally foraged ingredients and the lino-printed label artwork are all a nod to this beautiful place we call home.

"Working together on this project has been our silver lining to the upheaval of the past year.

"We felt lucky to be able to get our heads down and keep busy applying for all our licences, getting the distillery up and running and perfecting the flavour of Loveday Falmouth Dry over lockdown. "Social distancing rules made all this challenging at times, as you can imagine, but hooray for Zoom!

"We’ve been overwhelmed at the response so far, with our first batch selling out in just two weeks.

"Seeing our gin on shelves and hearing brilliant feedback from customers is just about the best reward I can think of for all the hectic months we’ve spent creating it."

Loveday Falmouth Dry Gin is available in 70cl and 20cl bottles through the company's website: www.falmouthdistilling.com
