Helston Athletic have this week confirmed their place in the next seasons FA Cup. It will be the second successive year the side have been in the competition.

The Blues will join the world famous competition in its qualifying rounds and will have to win a number of matches, some potentially against higher opposition before they get to the first round proper.

The FA Cup draw is set to take on Friday, July 9.

Manager Steve Massey was delighted with the news that his side would be in the hat for next seasons cup. He said: "It is a justification of the time, the effort and the investment that has been put into the club. We have really good ambitions at the club, so going on a little cup run would be great."

"We feel really proud of where we have come from don't forget in the 2015/16 season we were a step seven club and now we are step five, and to be in the FA Cup which everyone knows is a great competition, there is 700 + teams in the tournament and we are proud to be one of them.

"There is going to be some fairytale stories around clubs as always in the FA Cup, so why can't this year it be our turn?"

The FA Cup news caps off a busy week for a club which has seen two new additions added to the squad, with goalkeeper John Ross and striker Ryan Turner both agreeing terms with the club.

Massey explained how Ross had been on his the radar for a while, he said:"John has played for Robbo (coach Leigh Robinson) for a year at Dorchester. We tried to bring him in last year but he had an ankle injury, so really I have been trying to get him since last October. He is only young as keepers go but he has got a real maturity and a lot of confidence.

"He is a big lad and he talks really well, the modern game involves the keepers playing outfield and he can do that, he can also kick long and accurately as well. Most importantly he is a good shot stopper which helps if you're a goalkeeper!" Said Massey.

Turner was the second signing announced, his experience of being a proven goalscorer in the higher divisions could prove vital for Helston next season as they prepare for the Western League next season:

"Ryan scores tap ins, he can score from 20 yards, he is good in the air, he is going to add so much to our game he is so much more than a goalscorer, but he is a very good goalscorer at that!"

Helston are set to announce a third signing of the summer in the coming days.
