There will be disruption on the main route into Falmouth next week due to overnight resurfacing works.

The Hillhead Roundabout is to be resurfaced, leading to traffic lights on the A39 and the closure of Union Road.

This will be in place between 7pm and 5am, although the traffic order allows the closure of Union Road until 6am if needed.

However, Cornwall Council has promised that the noisiest work will take place before 11pm.

Work begins on Monday next week (June 21) and is expected to continue until next Thursday (June 24).

The council said it was part of its planned routine maintenance work.

It added: "Works will be undertaken between the hours of 7pm and 5am. Traffic lights will be in place on the A39 with a closure on Union Road.

"The noisiest operations will be completed by 11pm.

"We will have marshals on site to support residents and businesses needing local access.

"All through traffic will need to follow the diversions in place at all times."

The work will be carried out by Cormac.

The council added: "To prevent delays, please do not park on, or obstruct the highway during the working hours."

The traffic order states that the closure will not apply to emergency services, school buses, traffic associated with the works or any vehicle used in an emergency such as a loss of power or other utilities, along with anyone done with the permission of a police officer.

Pedestrian and vehicle access to residents and businesses will be maintained.

The council went on to add: "Access to residents and businesses will be maintained through gateways managed by traffic marshals. Residents will need to stop at the gateways and will be given safety instructions such as speed limit restrictions prior to entering the closure.

"If our teams need access or have to move machinery out of the way there may be short delays while this is happening.

"We will always do our best to accommodate day-today requirements of people affected by our works, and access will be maintained as much as possible for those people directly impacted by the closure. Emergency access will be maintained at all times."

It also stated that signs will be placed at major junctions prior to the closure on the key routes to take non-through traffic away from the closure and keep traffic disruption to a minimum.

"Diversion routes have to be suitable for the type of traffic that would normally use the route. We appreciate they can sometimes be quite lengthy, but in order to carry out the works safely to protect our operatives and road users we need to implement these measures," it added.
