The number of daily positive Covid cases in Cornwall has fallen a bit in today's Government coronavirus figures.

Yesterday's update saw new positive daily cases rise to 164 but today's number, for June 19, has dropped to 116 in the past 24 hours.

The total number of people with at least one positive Covid-19 test result, either lab-reported or lateral flow device (England only) in the most recent seven-day period given has gone up to 570 cases in the seven days leading up to June 14, from 467 cases yesterday. The most recent five days is not given due to incomplete data.

This gives a weekly case rate average of 99.7 cases per 100,000 people, up from 81.7 yesterday.

The overall total of cases in Cornwall since the start of the pandemic is now 15,419.

There has been another slight drop in the number of people testing positive for coronavirus in the UK, with 10,321 new cases in 24 hours. It follows 10,476 yesterday after a large rise on Thursday to 11,007 daily cases. This takes the total to 4,620,968 nationally since the start of the pandemic.

NHS England hospital daily figures are now being published every weekday, rather than every day.

However, Friday's data showed no further hospital deaths in Cornwall following a rise of one on Thursday, June 10, which was published in the figures the following day.

The combined number of Covid-19 deaths in total in the Duchy's hospitals since the start of the pandemic is now 266.

There have now been 204 deaths at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust, while at the Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust it remains at 62.

The overall number of deaths in Cornwall – including deaths in care homes and other settings – actually dropped yesterday to 467 (from 470 previously reported) in the 28 days after a positive test on the government dashboard. This is because on Wednesday this week (June 16) the way deaths are being allocated to local authorities and regions in England changed, to take account of the address at death registration first.

Because of this, the cumulative number of deaths in each affected local authority and region changed.

There has been no alteration to this figure in the last 24 hours.

The number of deaths simply with Covid-19 on the death certificate now stands at 572 in the most recent data available. It showed two new deaths in the week leading up to Friday, June 4, the most recent date given.

The overall UK figures show that 14 more people have died within 28 days of their first positive test result, up from nine yesterday. This means the total UK deaths within 28 days since the start of the pandemic stands at 127,970. These figures include people in care home and other settings.

Up to the end of Friday, June 18 a total of 42,679,268 people in the UK have received their first Covid-19 vaccination dose, while 31,087,325 people have had their second dose.

Yesterday it was revealed that Cornwall had the fourth highest Covid rate weekly increase in the country in the past week. Read the full story here.

Despite fears locally, due to the peak case rises being in Falmouth, Newquay and St Ives, Cornwall's lead councillor for health has also denied that the recent spike is a result of the G7 Summit. Read more on that here.
