A Falmouth couple will be celebrating their diamond anniversary on Thursday after 60 years of marriage.
Congratulations are in order for Bryan and Sylvia Symons, who live on Tregenver Road, Falmouth.
The couple met at an Old Time dance at Holmans while Sylvia was studying at Camborne College and never looked back.
Bryan told The Packet: "I used to go to a local Old Time dance here in Falmouth, and we had a trip over there one night in a coach. Sylvia was there with her friend and that's where we met. And we never turned back."
Sylvia lived at Fraddon and Bryan lived in Falmouth and used his motor bike to travel to and fro in all sorts of weather.
The couple were married at St Columb Church in St Columb Major, near St Mawgan on June 24, 1961 and went to a bed and breakfast in North Wales for their honeymoon.
Sylvia, being a keen seamstress at the time, made her own wedding dress with the help of one of her friends.
Bryan worked at the Falmouth Docks as a shipwright and after some years branched out on his own.
Four years after meeting they were married at St Columb Church – Sylvia having worked at Whitford & Sons in St Columb.
Canon Cooke officiated at the wedding and, several years later, retired to Falmouth living close to Sylvia and Bryan.
The couple have two sons, Colin and Christopher, after sadly losing their youngest son Lee 14 years ago. They also have three grandchildren, Sammy , Lou and Tristan, who they described as "wonderful."
They have enjoyed life to the full and travelled extensively.
Their advice for a long and happy marriage is “you get back what you put into it” and best of all have a sense of humour.
