Walk-in clinics are taking place this weekend for anyone yet to have received their first Covid jab in Cornwall.

There is no need to book ahead for the vaccination drop-in session taking place at the large vaccination centres at Stithians Showground and the Royal Cornwall Showground in Wadebridge this Sunday.

All adults aged 18 or over who have not yet had their first dose, or have already booked a slot through the National Booking Service, can go along to either showground between 10am and 6pm on June 27 to receive a Pfizer vaccine.

However, people who already have a confirmed booking slot for either a first or second dose should continue to attend their booked appointment as planned and not try to go early.

The Sunday walk-in clinics are running to make it even easier for people to get their first dose of Pfizer, get protected and stop the rise in Covid rates across Cornwall.

Iain Davidson, clinical lead at the vaccination centres, said: “We want to make it as easy for as many eligible people as possible, to take up the offer of a Covid jab and so we are running a walk-in Covid clinic this Sunday.

“With the sharp rise in the number of Covid cases we’re asking everyone to #doitforCornwall by rolling up their sleeve, getting protected and stop the spread of the virus.

“We have plenty of vaccines available. There is no need to book, just come along – but please be patient as it could be busy.”

Friendly vaccinators and volunteers will be ready to welcome people to the site and keep things running smoothly.

Regular updates will be posted across the Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust's Facebook and Twitter pages, providing details of any changes or delays in or around the large vaccination centres throughout the day.

Other vaccination services are available for anyone who is unable to make the walk-in on Sunday.

First and second doses appointment can be booked by logging on to the national NHS booking service, or calling 119 free of charge.

Adults aged 40 and over can also receive their second dose of the vaccine sooner – reducing the wait from 12 weeks to eight weeks.

People who have already have a second booked vaccination appointment for their second dose on the national booking system can log on to the system to change their appointment.

  • An additional vaccination clinic, which must be booked, is taking place in St Ives this Saturday.

The Atlantic Medical Group is running the pop-up clinic at the St Ives Guildhall between 2pm and 5.30pm on June 26.

Appointments for both first and second doses at the pop-up must be booked by logging on to the national NHS booking service, or calling 119 free of charge.

The pop-up clinic at St Ives is not a walk-in service and appointments for a Covid vaccination must be booked in advance through the national booking service.

To date vaccinators from the Atlantic Medical Group have given approximately provided 33,000 doses of the vaccine to people living in and around Penzance, including to fishermen and farmers at earlier pop-up clinics.

Tracey Hembrough, Atlantic Medical Group nurse partner, said: “We’re really pleased to be able to offer the pop-up clinic on Saturday as part of our continued efforts to make it as easy as possible for everyone in and around Penzance to have their Covid vaccination.

“We would like to extend our thanks to St Ives Town Council and Emma Gibson, cultural services manager, for working with us to get this service up and running so quickly.”
