A Cornish theatre group are on the hunt for three actresses to play characters in its latest production.

Touch Theatre, in cooperation with Gweek Players, are looking for three actresses for their production of The Welkin by Lucy Kirkwood at Gweek Village Hall, 2-4 September this year.

The dark comedy is set in 1759 on the Norfolk/Suffolk border and is about the trial of young Sally Poppy who is accused of murder but claims that she is pregnant, which, if verified by a jury of 12 local matrons, will save her life.

Sally’s fate lies in the hands of these twelve women who have the chance to make an important, life-changing decision in a world governed by men.

The theatre group are in need of three actresses to perform the following parts:

Hannah: Age 20-30, good-hearted but not very bright.

She has 3 children and dreams of leaving her unhappy marriage.

Lacks confidence and strength of character.

Read Next:

Judith: Age 45-60, a bedrock of the community.

She is sharp with a rough sense of humour.

Her hormones are playing havoc!

Ann: Age 25-35, world-weary, her idealism has been shattered.

She has 4 young daughters and is unhappily married to William, who needs lots of attention while she is neglected and uncared for.

The three female characters have smaller speaking parts but will have a strong presence on stage and are visible throughout the play.
