Covid cases at Cornish schools are rising inline with the rate of infections found in communities, according to a statement from Cornwall Council.

Several schools across the Duchy have reported positive Covid cases in the past few weeks including Penryn College, Mabe School and Falmouth School.

However, closed bubbles at Mabe School have been reopened again and children sent back to school after a Lateral Flow Test was confirmed to be a false positive.

So far, 75 students have been asked to isolate at Penryn College with a further 55 children at Mabe School from two class groups.

However, a false positive from a lateral flow test at Mabe School has meant that closed bubbles have now been reopened again and children sent back to school.

A spokesperson for Cornwall Council said: "The number of confirmed COVID cases in schools across Cornwall has risen in line with the rate of infections we have found in our communities.

"We would urge parents, carers and young people to adhere to the guidance set out by government, Public Health England and the Department for Education.

"To stay COVID safe everyone should wash their hands regularly for at least 20 seconds using soap and water or using hand sanitiser, not gather in groups of more than 6, follow social distancing measures keeping 2 metres apart if you can, keeping to school bubbles and wearing face masks in line with government advice.

In a statement posted on social media, Falmouth School said: "Falmouth School and Penryn College have agreed that both schools will ask students to wear face coverings in communal areas and corridors to reduce the spread of Covid-19 in our community.

"Please ensure your child has a face covering in school to help us beat this virus."
