There has been another slight fall in the number of daily positive Covid cases in Cornwall, following a peak of 153 last Thursday.

Today’s update saw new positive daily cases fall to 87, a fall from 99 the previous day.

However the total number of people with at least one positive Covid-19 test result, either lab-reported or lateral flow device (England only) in the most recent seven-day period given has gone up again to 826 in the seven days leading up to June 17, from 747 cases up to June 16. The most recent five days is not given due to incomplete data.

This means the weekly case rate average is now at 144.5 cases per 100,000 people, up from 130.6 on Monday.

The overall total of cases in Cornwall since the start of the pandemic is now 15,758.

The number of people testing positive for coronavirus in the UK continues to rise, with 11,625 new cases in 24 hours up to June 22.

This takes the total to 4,651,988 nationally since the start of the pandemic. NHS England hospital daily figures are now being published every weekday, rather than every day.

Tuesday’s data shows no hospital deaths in Cornwall following a rise of one on Thursday, June 10, which was published in the figures the following day.

The combined number of Covid-19 deaths in total in the Duchy’s hospitals since the start of the pandemic is now 266.

There have now been 204 deaths at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust, while at the Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust it remains at 62.

The overall number of deaths in Cornwall – including deaths in care homes and other settings – has dropped to 467 (from 470 previously reported) in the 28 days after a positive test on the government dashboard. This is because on Wednesday this week (June 16) the way deaths are being allocated to local authorities and regions in England changed, to take account of the address at death registration first.

Because of this, the cumulative number of deaths in each affected local authority and region changed.

There has been no alteration to this figure in the last 24 hours.

The number of deaths simply with Covid-19 on the death certificate now stands at 572 in the most recent data available. It showed two new deaths in the week leading up to Friday, June 4, the most recent date given.

The overall UK figures show that six more people have died within 28 days of their first positive test result. This means the total UK deaths within 28 days since the start of the pandemic stands at 127,976. These figures include people in care home and other settings.

By Monday, June 21, 42,148,843 people in the UK have had their first Covid-19 vaccination dose, while 31,489,240 people have had their second dose.
