A 22-year-old man has been charged with murder in connection with the death of a woman in West Cornwall.

Firearms and local officers, and paramedics were called to an isolated address in Crowlas, near Penzance, at 7am on Tuesday 22 June following reports of a suspicious death.

The woman, now formally identified as 44-year-old Sally Poynton, was confirmed deceased at the scene.

Jacob Poynton-Whiting, 22, of Crowlas, has been charged with murder in connection to this incident.

He has also been charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent on an 18-year-old man during the same incident.

Poynton-Whiting remains in police custody and is due before Truro Magistrates’ Court today [24 June].

A statement issued by Devon and Cornwall Police at the time said: "Police are investigating the suspicious death of a woman at an address near Penzance.

"Firearms and local officers, and paramedics attended the scene at around 7am today [22 June] and found a woman deceased at the scene with knife wounds.

"A man in his 20s from the Penzance area has been arrested in connection with the enquiry and remains in police custody at this time."
