PENRYN has been chosen as the place for one of the two sprint races for the Tour Of Britain cycle race in September.

Andy Hawes the Route Director for the Tour of Britain, which takes place on Sunday 5th September this year, confirmed today that the Cornish town will be included.

The sprints are basically a way that the riders can earn extra points and win the Sprint top to wear during the next race.

They are looking at holding it along Commercial Road where a 1K marker will be in place.

The sprint race will be taking place at approximately 1.15pm-1.30pm when the riders come through Penryn, on the way out from Falmouth.

There will be cameras and live media coverage and the area will be set up by the Tour of Britain staff.

There will be crowd fencing and finish line which will be near the Durgan Lane junction, as to tie in with the ‘Party in the Park’. The free music event the Penryn Events Committee are holding in Trelawney Park.

The event opens at 12pm with the Mayor Julie Tucker’s introduction at 12.25pm and goes on until 5pm with The Quest, Bo River and The Ritzy Belles playing.

It will be a great opportunity for families to bring a picnic listen to music and watch the race.
