Two pet dogs who had gone missing near the Penryn College woods area this morning have now been found.

Word was put out on Facebook this morning by both the dog's owner and a concerned friend that the two animals had gone missing at roughly 7am this morning.

However, a few hours later, the dogs had returned and are now back home safe.

Toby Brand, the dog's owner, posted an update to Facebook this morning informing people that the dogs had returned after previously uploading a post stating the dogs were missing, microchipped and requested people keep a lookout for them.

In the social media update, Toby said: "Dogs missing in Penryn (college woods area) since 7am.

"Please can everyone keep a look out.

"Microchipped."

Gem York, who also put the update out on Facebook and shared it to several local groups indicated in the post that there had been suspicious activity from strangers around the dog's owner's home in the days leading up to their disappearance.

In the post on her social media channels, Gem said: "My friend's two dogs have gone missing.

"Can everyone share please.

Chief Inspector Rob Curtis was assigned to head up Devon and Cornwall Police's dog theft unit and tried to reassure owners back in May that the force took dog theft very seriously.

At the time, Chief Inspector Curtis said: "The theft of a beloved pet causes major distress to the owners, and although dog theft is very rare, we want people to be aware and to take safe precautions to help protect their dogs from this crime.

"Microchipping is not only a legal requirement but is essential in helping to return pets back to their rightful owners.

"We want to make sure that we can reunite any lost or stolen dogs back with their families as quickly as possible."
