Six Royal Air Force trainee weapon system officers have graduated from a ten week training course at RNAS Culdrose.

Flying Officers Edmonds, Lee, Mahoney, Mileham, Poole and Wright all graduated 750 Naval Air Squadron after taking the Weapon Systems Officer Lead-In, a new course at RNAS Culdrose.

In order to graduate, the officers had to complete around 20 hours in the simulator and 18 hours of airborne training over Cornwall in the squadron’s Avenger T1 aircraft.

The course also covered basic and system-based navigation, sensor utilisation, use of radar, tactical use of aircraft, cross-platform operations as well as including an introduction to mission command and operational decision-making.

The announcement was made on the Royal Navy Air Station Culdrose Facebook page on Thursday last week (June 24).

In the post, Royal Navy Air Station Culdrose said: "Six Royal Air Force trainee weapon system officers have finished their demanding 10-week training with the Royal Navy.

"They graduated from RNAS Culdrose’s 750 Naval Air Squadron after taking the new Weapon Systems Officer Lead-In course.

"It included an extensive ground-school package, around 20 hours in the simulator and 18 hours of airborne training over Cornwall in the squadron’s Avenger T1 aircraft.

"Working through the ongoing Covid restrictions and some unseasonal Cornish weather, all six students worked hard to complete the course.

"It covered basic and system-based navigation, sensor utilisation, use of radar, tactical use of aircraft, cross-platform operations and an introduction to mission command and operational decision-making."

RNAS Culdrose also recently saw 814 Naval Air Squadron, also known as the Flying Tigers, awarded for achieving the highest possible degree of operational capability over the past year.
