A FARMER came to the rescue after an ice cream van got itself stuck on the main walkway down to a Cornish Beach.

The ice cream van was in danger of rolling over after it went up a steep incline at the side of the walkway down to Treyarnon Bay near Padstow.

Padstow Coastguard rescue team were called to the beach by lifeguards last Friday at around 12.01pm after they became concerned the van would roll over because it was in such a precarious position.

There were fears for public safety as well over the possibility the van could roll back down to the beach.

The team put up a safety barrier and called Padstow Fire and Rescue Service but before they arrived a farmer with a tractor pulled the vehicle to safety.

Posting on Facebook, the coastguard rescue team said: "The team were tasked to assist the lifeguards with public safety. On arrival on scene, it was apparent that a vehicle was in a precarious situation, with fears it might roll on to the main walk way to the beach.

"The team set up a safety barrier and awaited the arrival of Padstow Fire & Rescue Service. In the meantime the situation was rectified by a local farmer.

"Stand down received 13:00hrs."
