Falmouth fire brigade have issued a warning about BBQs after being called to a fire where one had been placed next to a log pile.

The fire caused extensive damage to the house after the logs caught fire and spread up the side of the house and into the roof.

The owner had put the BBQ they thought was out alongside the logs which were only there for decorational purposes.

The flames soon spread up the logs and into the roof.

The station warned people to alway ensure their BBQ is out before disposing of it and not to leave combustible materials up the side of their house.

Posting on Facenbook they said: "We attended a fire where the owner had placed a BBQ, they presumed out, next to some logs that were piled against the building.

"They caught fire and very quickly the fire spread up the side of the house into the roof causing excessive damage.

"Always make sure you ensure a BBQ is completely out before moving it, keep away from any combustibles and if in any doubt drench in water.

"The logs were kept against the building for decorational purposes, these were a fire risk. Any combustible materials left against your home can accelerate the fire into the roof space."
