Porthleven Town Council have issued a statement after residents aired heir disgust about the state of certain public toilets in the coastal town.

The Town Council issued a statement after complaints were voiced over social media about the public toilets on Shute Lane in Porthleven, with one resident claiming to have been genuinely disgusted and appalled.

In a post on social media, a local businesswoman said she had visited the public toilets only to find them in an 'absolutely revolting state.

She said: "I was genuinely disgusted and appalled by the state at which it was in. I understand that the men’s and women’s toilets were vandalised and are awaiting repair but how long is it going to take?

"The floor is a big muddy puddle of dirt, the lock on the door, I discovered this evening, has been taken/smashed off so there’s no privacy there from the general public and various items from the sanitary bin in there were all over the floor, not nice!

"I live and work in the village and it makes me not want to come back again so just imagine what the holidaymakers must be thinking - that’s not the village we are and more should be being done."

Other people then chimed in on the comments section agreeing with the statement, with one saying: "I refused to take my daughter in there the other day because of how disgusting they were."

In a statement sent to The Packet, Porthleven Town Council said: "We can now confirm that work to repair two faults to the drainage pipes and damage to a manhole, identified via extensive CCTV investigations of the system, at Shute Lane toilets is scheduled to start next week.

"Work will also be undertaken to remove a large piece of concrete that is blocking the system.

"Once this work has been completed, we will be able to replace the damaged toilet caused by vandalism and the toilets should be opened fully.

"We can also confirm that the public toilets are cleaned twice daily, first thing in the morning and around lunchtime.

"We have requested costings from our contractors with regards to an additional clean in the afternoon.

"If you find the toilets are not clean, please email us directly with specific times and details of the issue so we can address these issues with our contractors

"We have looked into bringing in some portaloos to help with the situation but at present there is no availability until September which doesn't help us now.

"Thank you for your patience in this matter."
