Just four areas of Cornwall are not showing as a Covid cluster with every other part recording at least three weekly cases - and some seeing more than ten times that.

In today's government update 68 out of a potential 72 cluster areas are now showing on the dashboard map as a case cluster.

These are places that recorded three or more cases in the seven days leading up to Monday this week, June 28. Data for the most recent five days is not shown due to being incomplete.

The four areas that have only had two or fewer cases, and as such are not classed as as cluster, are: Looe & Polperro, Torpoint, Mid Saltash and Poundstock & Kilkhampton.

Some areas have seen large increases in cases over the space of a week.

They include Helston, which has gone up to 40 cases from 12 a week earlier. This is also 11 more cases than was showing in Wednesday's midweek update.

The centre of St Austell has also seen a big weekly jump, going from eight cases to 44 in just seven days.

A previous peak area, Newquay, has seen the rate of new cases halve, dropping from 133 a week ago to 65 across its two clusters now.

However, its surrounding areas have seen rises, with St Columb Minor & Porth rising from 27 to 41 and St Columb Major & St Mawgan also rising from 27 to 49.

Falmouth Packet:

It's after Cornwall and Isles of Scilly recorded 989 cases during the seven days to June 28, which was 121 more than recorded in the preceding week. This marked a rise of 139% week on week.

The rate of new cases now averages 173 cases per 100,000 people, compared to 152 cases per 100,000 people last Saturday.

The map shows positive cases by 'Middle Super Output Area' - the name the government gives to the break-up of larger towns and groups of neighbouring towns and villages, with groupings covering a greater area than others.

The minimum population in each area is 5,000 and the average is 7,200.

Clusters are shown when there are three or more new cases reported at any one time.

Anywhere with between zero and two cases shows white in order to "protect the privacy of individuals and prevent disclosure", the accompanying information states.
