A Cornish hotel has announced it will be welcoming back weddings after the latest government announcement regarding restrictions.

The Ship & Castle Hotel in St Mawes, which reopened last month, is now welcoming back weddings as it looks to take the next steps in its post-pandemic recovery having had a busy few weeks since reopening.

With the latest Government guidance allowing for weddings to go ahead with no limit on numbers other than social distancing requirements, staff at the Ship & Castle have expressed delight they can progress with offering weddings, as they continue to rebuild –and re-establish its reputation as one of St Mawes’ foremost wedding venues.

Since reopening last month, the hotel, which is part of the newly formed Coast & Country Hotel Collection, has reportedly had a period of busy trade, with many guests expressing their pleasure at being able to enjoy its hospitality once more.

With its traditional events offering now in full flow, the hotel was hoping the latest Government guidance would allow it to welcome engaged couples as lockdown measures ease – and is delighted that is now the case.

Paul Ricketts, the General Manager of the Ship & Castle Hotel, said: "While the extension of social distancing measures does continue to restrict part of our business, we’re very much focusing on the positives and we’re delighted to be able to bring weddings back to our wonderful venue – albeit with some necessary social distancing restrictions in place."

With the latest required measures confirmed and the hotel now in a position to host weddings once more, the venue has launched a special 2021 wedding package to celebrate that fact, as it seeks to tempt those couples who’ve had to postpone their nuptials – which sees it offering a 30-guest wedding for just £2,021.

Paul continued: "We’ve established a 30-guest package with more restricted numbers in mind but with the ability to supplement this with additional guests if the couple choose to.

"We’re just very excited to be able to welcome weddings again and want to offer both flexibility and affordability in what’s been a difficult year."

The Ship & Castle was rescued from the risk of permanent closure in 2020 following the collapse of Specialist Leisure Group, the then owner of the Shearings brand.

Having recently reopened under new ownership and as part of a new hotel management agreement, availability for weddings is good – meaning couples who have had to wait or even became engaged during lockdown are in a good position to secure their perfect date.

The 2021 wedding package will allow for 30 guests to enjoy a four-course, sit-down wedding breakfast and a glass of Prosecco per person, plus it’s also inclusive of an overnight stay for the bride and groom on their wedding night.

Furthermore, the offer includes table linen, napkins, place cards, a table plan and menu cards, a cake stand and knife hire.

Paul said: "One of the benefits of the Ship & Castle having only recently reopened is that despite recent enquiries, our calendar for weddings still has some availability, which means couples who are quick to get in touch will almost have a choice of dates, which run up until the end of the year as part of the offer.

"Hopefully, the 4-week delay on the easing of lockdown measures will prove to be just that and guests who book in for late July can enjoy a wedding without restrictions.

"The last few weeks since reopening have been tremendously busy, yet exciting, and we’re delighted to be moving into the next phase of the process of bouncing back."
