A new restaurant is set to open in Helston next month - and it will be bringing waffles to the town.

Behind it is Garen Sharland, who has previously served waffles from a van as the co-owner of Double Decadence.

However, after being unable to find a pitch to trade from this year, and his business partner unable to commit the hours, he is moving into the town centre after managing to find a place of his own at 59 Meneage Street, the former Nationwide building that later became a financial advisors.

Currently under renovation, he hopes to open in early August after applying for a change of use.

Garen told the Packet: "It's been a very busy time for us. We have two floors of dinning, the basement will be the kitchen and the attic will be office/ crew room. We have also a private room for up to six people to enjoy food without disruption."

He said he hoped that the restaurant could also offer outside dining later in the year.

Garren added: "We've stripped almost the whole building. It's all coming along nicely."

The restaurant will be able to seat up to 50 people inside, serving sweet waffles and breakfast with potato waffles all made freshly to order.

Back at the start of May Garen posted on social media saying he was hoping to set up business permanently in Helston and asking people what they would like to see.

A steak house, Italian, Greek restaurant and noodle bar, or even a board game cafe, were among some of the suggestions.

However, many people said they would like to see Garen continue doing what he does best - and it seems he agreed.

At the time he told the Packet: "It's always been a dream of mine to open my own shop."

Garen has lived in Helston for nearly 15 years, after being posted here when in the Navy. He left due to injuries and completed a catering course at the Ashburton Chefs Academy, having already worked as a baker for Marks and Spencer, and in a TexMex shop for five years before joining the forces.

He added: "I have since become a foster carer and I have realised that in Helston there isn't anything family oriented or, if I'm honest, fun to do or eat."
