PEOPLE are being urged to continue to wear face masks when travelling by bus, train or taxi restrictions are eased today.
The Government and Cornwall’s Public Health team recommendation is for people to continue to wear a face covering in potentially crowded and confined areas.
Rachel Wigglesworth, Director of Public Health for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, said: “Even though face coverings are no longer required by law from July 19, it is expected and recommended that face coverings are worn in crowded areas and that includes public transport. The safe choice is to wear a face covering to protect yourself and others.”
“Please be respectful of others when using public transport and if you can, please plan your journey to try to avoid busy times.”
Young people over the age of eleven travelling on dedicated school transport are also asked to continue to wear a face covering unless exempt.
The bus companies will be doing their bit by keeping buses well ventilated and clean with signs encouraging passengers to wear a face covering unless exempt.
In line with Government advice, GWR will expect people to wear a face covering when on board trains and throughout the station environment.
Cornwall Airport Newquay will also request that passengers wear a face covering in the Airport terminals.
