A coastguard search and rescue team in West Cornwall pulled off a daring rescue yesterday after reports came in of someone having fallen from a cliff.

Lands End Coastguard Search & Rescue Team received the called out to the incident after receiving reports of a person having fallen from a cliff near Porthcurno

They were joined by Sennen Cove Lifeboat Station ALB and ILB as well as the RNLI Penwith Lifeguards.

The team arrived on the scene and set up a rope rescue system in order to extract the casualty from below and bring them to the top of the cliff where ambulances were waiting.

However, as conditions on the water were in their favour, the team decided the easiest extraction method would be via lifeboat and proceeded, along with support from an off duty Paramedic and Trauma doctor who were near by, to transport the casualty to Porthcurno via lifeboat and transfer to ambulances services from there.

In an update on its social media page, Lands End Coastguard Search & Rescue Team said: "The team were tasked today to reports that someone had fallen from the cliff near Porthcurno.

"Sennen Cove Lifeboat Station ALB and ILB proceeded to the scene as well as the RNLI Penwith Lifeguards.

"The Coastguard Rescue Helicopter was also tasked.

"We set up a rope rescue system so that we could bring the casualty to the cliff top by stretcher with support from Penzance Coastguard Rescue Team to be treated by South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust Paramedics.

"But, as the conditions allowed the lifeboat to access the casualty, they liaised with the lifeguards and, along with support from an off duty Paramedic and Trauma doctor who were near by, decided that the quickest and easiest extraction would be via lifeboat to Porthcurno and transfer to the Ambulance there.

"Another brilliant example of multi agency working from the amazing rescue services in West Cornwall."
