INCONSIDERATE drivers who block access to a residential care home in the middle of Falmouth will soon have no excuse to do so.

There has been an ongoing problem with people parking on the pavement outside Earle's Retreat on the opposite side to the Provedore Cafe in Trelawney Road, Falmouth blocking the entrance where ambulances and cars often pick up the residents

But now Cornwall Council have agreed to redraw and extend the yellow line to show people that it is not advisory to park there following the intervention of Cornwall councillors Jayne Kirkham and Laurie

"This may sound like a small thing but it is important and has taken a lot of time," said Cllr Kirkham

"People have been parking outside Earles Retreat and on the pavement blocking the entrance where ambulances and cars often pick up the residents, who are often elderly and not very mobile. It is also blocking their emergency muster point.

"Cornwall Council have agreed to redraw and extend a line along the road to show people that it is not advisory to park there."

She want to publicise the move so that local people will read it and know the problems that parking in that location causes Earles Retreat residents and that people are aware that the council will take action when vulnerable people are affected by poor parking. It’s been agreed but not painted yet.

Cllr Kirkham says she us also working with King Charles School to look at establishing a safe zone outside on Western Terrace and also trying to find out from Cormac why the lollipop lady on Killigrew Street has not been replaced.
