As their CEO, Tony led BHRUT as it responded to the global pandemic and was tasked with coming up with ways of tackling its waiting lists.

RCHT Chairwoman, Dr Mairi Mclean said: "We are delighted to have been able to appoint someone with Tony’s experience to pick up the reins at RCHT.

"We’re facing a challenging period for our hospitals; anticipating our busiest ever summer in Cornwall, whilst also being determined to tackle the waiting times for routine operations that have grown as a result of the pandemic.

"Tony is coming from a trust that has seen the full force of Covid and I feel sure he will be able to hit the ground running."

Speaking of his new role, Tony said: "I am delighted to be joining a trust that is so focused on looking after its workforce and on continually improving the care it offers the population it serves.

"I’ve been struck by the warmth of the welcome I’ve received from staff I’ve spoken to already and I’m looking forward to meeting many more colleagues in the months ahead.

"As well as helping RCHT address the challenges that lie ahead, I am keen to work with our health and social care partners so that, together, we can maximise the benefits we offer our residents in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly."
