Falmouth’s Scott Kellow had the most memorable of days when he played in the Cornwall team last week that beat a Somerset XI at the County Ground, Taunton in a first NCCA Showcase fixture, writes Michael Weeks.

In the 50 over game Somerset, preparing for their Royal London Cup campaign were bowled out for 260 with Cornishman Lewis Goldsworthy making 59. Rob Mutch took 4 for 30 on debut. Cornwall responded superbly to reach 263 for 5 with 22 balls to spare. Skipper Scott Harvey made a county best 93 not out and Truro teammate Charlie Kent hit 60 as Cornwall reached 149 before losing their second wicket. Kent and Ollie Westbury had put on 77 for the first wicket in 16 overs before being parted. Kellow made 28 in a fifth-wicket stand of 68 with Harvey. England's Test Spinner Jack Leach took one for 33 from 10 overs. The game was played in 30-degree heat. Eight of the Somerset team went on to defeat Derbyshire in the RL Cup opener on Sunday with Goldsworthy hitting 57 not out in his List A debut. Cornwall return to NCCA Championship action on Sunday with a three-day game against Devon at Truro (11am). Cornwall drew their opening game with Wales NC.

Taunton – Somerset 260 (GW Thomas 68, LP Goldsworthy 59, BGF Green 32, SJ Young 23, KL Aldridge 21; RG Mutch 4-30, CM Johnson 2-30) lost to Cornwall 263-5 (SA Harvey 93no, CJ Kent 60, SP Kellow 28, OE Westbury 26; KL Aldridge 2-54) by five wickets.
