Redruth Town Council is celebrating a £48,000 funding boost from SUEZ Communities Trust for their Skatepark for Redruth project.

Redruth Town Council and Redruth Skatepark Association have been working on the Skatepark Project for some time and are delighted to announce that the Skatepark build will be starting on Monday, August 2 in East End Playing Fields.

The new facility will mean local people, of all ages, will have a great facility within their own neighbourhood. The skate park will be accessible and suitable for use by scooters, BMX bikes as well as skateboarders and roller skates.

Meanwhile, through separate funding, pathways will be created in the site to ensure that the playground and new skatepark are fully accessible. Planning permission is in place and funds have been secured with this contribution being the final piece of the puzzle.

Councillor Ian Thomas who has been the Town Council's lead on the Redruth wheeled sports facility, since 2011, said "It is absolutely fantastic news to hear that the SUEZ Communities Trust have been able to put in place the final piece of our project's financial jigsaw."

He then added, "It certainly has been quite a journey, in fact a decade long, to arrive at the point where we will provide a destination for all wheeled sports enthusiasts. Our multi-discipline, all-inclusive wheeled sports facility has been designed and developed through a series of workshops and consultations with end-users and Maverick Skateparks. And, in all of this, the needs of the novice, those seeking a challenge, the vastly experienced and the less mobile have been kept firmly in mind. Well done Team Redruth!"

Local Cornwall Councillor Barbara Ellenbroek said “I am delighted that the final piece in the funding jigsaw has come from Suez. Many thanks to them and the other funders for their support, this project has been wanted for so long in Redruth, and I look forward to seeing it finished.”

Marek Gordon, Chairman of SUEZ Communities Trust added “SUEZ Communities Trust provides funding awards through the Landfill Communities Fund. We were delighted to be able to offer funding to Redruth Town Council.”
