Plans are about to be submitted for an ambitious waterfront scheme in Falmouth and finance for the project is available.

But where from is definitely not being released by the chairman of Falmouth Chamber of commerce Barry Stuttard.

He made it clear a quarterly meeting of the chamber that while support had been given to the Well Lane car park development, the door had been shut to an alternative plan which could lead to the opening of the waterfront and an alternative car park within a more sensitive scheme.

He said the Falmouth Waterfront Trust was about to submit plans which could open up the discussions once more about waterfront usage in the town.

It was a case of first the good news and then the bad news when Penryn Town councillors discussed this year's gardens competition.

Town clerk Mr Derek Kitto reported that there had been a good response to the competition with 16 entries received for the various classes.

However the bad news was that one of the perpetual trophies had 'gone walkabout'.

The cup, which was presented to a double glazing company who once traded in Penryn, had not been returned. Efforts to trace the missing silverware had proved unsuccessful.

Council members voted to pay for a replacement cup.

Boat owners in the Percuil River off the Carrick Roads are so fed up with thefts from their boats and missing equipment they have stepped up their special boat watch this year.

The boat owners wanted to make sure that the movements on or near the river can be observed at all time so the night and day.

The move follows a year when some 13 boats were attacked by thieves or had equipment taken from them.

Last year the majority of those responsible were eventually caught as a result of good observation by those living nearby and this year it is hoped the increased observation will make sure no attempts to rob from the boats will be successful.
