The weekly number of Covid cases in Cornwall continues to fall as daily figures also remain lower than last week - although one new death has been recorded.

It's as the number of daily cases in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly rises slightly to 188 in the last 24 hours, from 181 yesterday, but remains well below the 200 threshold that cases were crossing before the weekend.

The total number of people with at least one positive Covid-19 test result (either lab-reported or lateral flow device) in the most recent seven-day period given, which is on a delay, has fallen to 1,424 in the seven days leading up to July 28, from 1,451. The most recent five days is not given due to incomplete data.

This means the weekly case rate average now stands at 249.0 cases per 100,000 people, compared to 253.8 cases yesterday.

The overall total of cases in Cornwall since the start of the pandemic is now 24,143.

The daily number of people testing positive for coronavirus in the UK as of today, August 2, had gone up by 21,952, another fall on yesterday's 24,470 new cases.

This takes the total of cases since the start of the pandemic to 5,902,354.

The combined number of Covid-19 deaths in total in the Duchy’s hospitals since the start of the pandemic remains at 277, following a rise of two last Tuesday, July 27 at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust.

The total number recorded at the hospital trust since the start of the pandemic is shown as 215, while at the Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust it currently remains at 62.

However, the government update shows the overall number of deaths in Cornwall – including deaths in care homes and other settings – is now at 482 in the 28 days after a positive Covid test, with one in the last 24 hours.

The number of deaths in Cornwall simply with Covid-19 on the death certificate remains at 581 in the most recent data available. It shows two new deaths in the week leading up to Friday, July 16, the most recent date given.

The overall UK figures show that 24 more people have died within 28 days of their first positive test result, down from 65 yesterday. Total UK deaths within 28 days since the start of the pandemic stands at 129,743. These figures include people in care home and other settings.

Up to Sunday, August 1 a total of 46,872,411 people in the UK have had their first Covid-19 vaccination dose, while 38,464,025 have had their second dose.

In Cornwall it is 423,650 with their first dose and 353,132 with their second.
