The weekly number of Covid cases in Cornwall has risen again although daily figures continue to fall.

However, the number of deaths involving the virus has risen for the second day running, this time recorded in a hospital.

It's as the number of daily cases in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly has fallen to 154 in the last 24 hours, from 188 yesterday.

However, total number of people with at least one positive Covid-19 test result (either lab-reported or lateral flow device) in the most recent seven-day period given, which is on a delay, has risen to 1,471 in the seven days leading up to July 29, from 1,424. This will be due to a rise actually recorded a few days ago, with the most recent five days not given due to incomplete data.

It means the weekly case rate average now stands at 257.3 cases per 100,000 people, compared to 249.0 cases yesterday.

The overall total of cases in Cornwall since the start of the pandemic is now 24,297.

The daily number of people testing positive for coronavirus in the UK as of today, August 3, shows 21,691 new cases, another fall on yesterday's 21,952 new cases.

This takes the total of cases since the start of the pandemic to 5,923,820.

The combined number of Covid-19 deaths in total in the Duchy’s hospitals since the start of the pandemic has risen to 278, following the first death in many months being recorded at the Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust on Sunday (August 1).

The total number recorded at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust since the start of the pandemic is now 215, while at the Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust it has risen to 63.

The government update shows the overall number of deaths in Cornwall – including deaths in care homes and other settings – is now at 483 in the 28 days after a positive Covid test, with a further death recorded in the last 24 hours.

The number of deaths in Cornwall simply with Covid-19 on the death certificate is now at 584 in the most recent data available. It shows three new deaths in the week leading up to Friday, July 23, the most recent date given.

The overall UK figures show that 138 more people have died within 28 days of their first positive test result, up from 24 yesterday. Total UK deaths within 28 days since the start of the pandemic stands at 129,881. These figures include people in care home and other settings.

Up to Monday, August 2 a total of 46,898,525 people in the UK have had their first Covid-19 vaccination dose, while 38,590,332 have had their second dose.

In Cornwall it is 423,730 with their first dose and 353,902 with their second.
