Many areas of Cornwall have seen weekly Covid cases fall over the most recent seven day period, but some have continued to rise and one town in particular remains high.

It's as Cornwall and Isles of Scilly as a whole saw the number of new cases fall by 22.5% in the seven days leading up to last Friday, July 30, the most recent data available.

There were 1,416 new positive tests results recorded, which was 410 cases lower than across the preceding seven days.

The most recent five days are not shown due to incomplete data.

The case rate now averages 247.6 cases per 100,000 people, which is a fall from 319.5 cases per 100,000 people a week ago.

Despite seeing cases start to fall, Newquay remains the area of Cornwall with the highest number of new cases.

The town recorded a combined 120 cases during that weekly period: Newquay West 45 (down 14) and Newquay East 75 (down 22).

However, this is down on the 156 recorded during the preceding seven days.

Earlier today Cornwall Council put out a warning to people living and visiting Newquay to take precautions due to the high number of cases.

Helston has seen new cases more than halve, recording 25 across seven days compared to 52 the previous week.

Padstow & St Issey has also seen another large fall, from 43 to 16.

However, a smaller number of areas have seen rises, such as Liskeard where cases have risen from seven to ten, with small rises also seen in Penzance South & Newlyn, Mylor Bridge & Frogpool and Pool & Illogan Highway (18, up three) among others.

Falmouth Packet:

The map shows positive cases by 'Middle Super Output Area' - the name the government gives to the break-up of larger towns and groups of neighbouring towns and villages, with groupings covering a greater area than others.

The minimum population in each area is 5,000 and the average is 7,200.

Clusters are only shown when there are three or more new cases reported at any one time.

Anywhere with between zero and two cases shows white in order to "protect the privacy of individuals and prevent disclosure", the accompanying information states.
