FALMOUTH'S mayor has expressed his disappointment at the damage caused the new boardwalk currently being installed at Swanvale.

Writing in his weekly round-up Steve Eva says it is particularly disappointing because of the huge time and effort it has taken to improve the area.

"I was disappointed to hear of the vandalism to the new boardwalk at Swanvale this has been a huge amount of time and effort to improve the area and space for people to enjoy only to be vandalised by some people who shows no respect for others."

On a brighter note he writes: "This week has been all about the build up for Falmouth Week although the night entertainment has been shortened due to Covid mainly the ping threat.

"The sailing will be well supported and a sight for many to enjoy from the headland.

"There is, as you know, many things happening on the Moor all week.

"The Red Arrows on Wednesday night and fireworks on Friday night at 10pm. Also night entertainment from from Friday through Sunday on the Church Street car park so plenty happening which brings me to last night's carnival which was smaller due to Covid, but the turnout from the town residents and visitors was as big as I have ever seen and the atmosphere was fantastic.

"A big thank you to Falmouth Marine Band who organises the carnival every year. I would like to thank all those who took part and a special thanks to Embrace Dance Group who brought colour and a great atmosphere to the parade.

"We must look forward to life getting back to some normality after the last 16months but still be on our guard and continue to stay safe by Hands Face Space I still believe masks are needed in indoor spaces in respect to other peoples safety enjoy Falmouth Week."

Writing a week ago before her summer break, deputy mayor Kirstie Edwards said she was delighted to be able to bring her first motion before the council.

"This week was an exciting one for me as I bought my first motion to full council," she writes. "The reason I wanted to be a councillor, was to make a positive difference to ordinary lives and to build upon the great work happening in our home town already. You have to be passionate and resourceful to be a decent councillor- it’s a unpaid role but you do get a lot out of it if you have the motivation to do so.

"My top three things for the next four years are protecting and diversifying our green and blue spaces, improving accessibility and community resources for our residents and to ensure ALL of our residents feel safe and supported.

"These are obviously different to the things I would have targeted as a Cornwall councillor, as the role and the things we are in charge of as a town council are very different- I'd love to tackle housing and recycling, but alas that’s not my remit!

"Anyway, I've been making headway on the first two in my first weeks and this week I laid out my plan to support residents moving forward as part of a multi-agency team

"I was delighted that this passed unanimously and have spent the latter part of the week meeting with community partners to mold the plan and get the training organised - so far we have ten councillors and staff all wanting to do the training which is really excellent and far exceeded my expectations.

"I am taking a break for August to spend with my family, aside from essential council business, so I will see you on the other side of the summer holidays. As always, stay safe, take care and be kind.
