Walk-in Covid jabs are going to be available in Falmouth this Saturday as the town is revealed as having one of the highest rates of the cases in the county.

The walkin in vaccine centre will be on Church Corner, Church Street outside King Charles Church from 10am to 5.30pm on August 14.

Falmouth's overall case total rose to 168 over the seven-day period - 89 more than a week ago: Falmouth West & South (53, up 31), Falmouth East (55, up 29), Falmouth North (60, up 29). It puts it as the town with the highest number of cases in Cornwall.

Restaurants, pubs, clubs and bars are also being urged to make sure they are well ventilated and encourage staff to keep testing twice a week with Lateral Flow Tests.

Latest figures (Aug 11) show Falmouth North has a rate of 726 cases per 100,000 with Falmouth East on 657.1, Falmouth West and South on 536.9 and Penryn on 695.5.

This compares to 303 for Cornwall as a whole.

Falmouth told to stay alert as Covid cases rise in town

Meanwhile, thousands of young people nearing their 18th birthday can book in for their life-saving Covid jab from today (Thursday).

Teenagers within three months of turning 18 can now book their vaccine appointment online through the National Booking Service or by calling 119.

Text messages will be sent to more than 100,000 eligible teens inviting them to arrange their jab at one of hundreds of convenient vaccine sites in England.

NHS chiefs are urging young people to get protected against the virus ahead of going to university in September.

Findings from the Office for National Statistics this week showed that willingness to get jabbed has increased among 18 to 21 year olds and more than 1.4 million people between 18 and 24 have already been jabbed.

Since the NHS administered the first jab outside of clinical trials in Coventry in December, almost 73 million doses have been delivered with more than 33 million people receiving maximum protection from the virus.
