A talented Penryn College student has been selected to perform at the renowned Boardmasters Festival in Newquay tomorrow.

Year ten pupil and musician/singer-songwriter, Jake, was presented with the opportunity by the Cornwall Music Service Trust, and will fulfil his dream when he performs a number of songs with his acoustic guitar at the Keg & Pasty venue on Friday, August 13.

“Boardmasters is a festival I’ve always wanted to go to, and now the fact I get to perform there has blown me away,” said music enthusiast, Jake.

“I’m very passionate about music, and this is such an exciting opportunity for me; I was thrilled when I was asked to take part,” he added.

It’s an opportunity that the 15-year-old is more than prepared for, having performed to audiences from a young age, with support and encouragement from those around him.

“When I was younger, I was always singing around the house and loved music - my family encouraged any creativity,” said Jake.

“During my primary school years, I took up piano for a little while, but then I started singing and playing the guitar. When I was 10, my music teacher at the time suggested I should try the school talent competition, so I went for it, and luckily enough, I won! Since then, I’ve tried to take up many opportunities and perform whenever I get a chance, both in and out of school, even if it’s by the campfire with my family!” he continued.

And Jake went on to reflect on the importance of his secondary school years, and how they have helped lead him to this significant moment in his musical journey.

“The staff at Penryn College have always been amazing with helping me build my confidence in music, and making it exciting to take part in,” said Jake.

“I have always been encouraged to perform in school concerts and take part in the many music clubs and activities that Penryn College provides. The amazing teachers give music such a community feel and make it so welcoming to take part in.”

Jake will be performing at the Boardmasters Keg & Pasty venue from 11.00am on Friday 13th August.
