Teams compete in dragon boats which are large canoe-like vessels fitted with ornately carved dragon’s heads and tails. Crews of up to 16 people sit in pairs and paddle to compete in multiple timed races over distances of around 250m.
Despite, as expected, the number of teams taking part being down on previous year's it is hoped that next year the teams can be back up to around the 20 mark.

The organisers declared the new venue a great success, with more people being able to see the races and the pub providing refreshments and food and hoped it is hoped it will now become the permanent new home for the event.
"The event went very well and all the teams on the day feedback was great for the new venue," said organiser Chris Dodimead. "So we are very happy with the new venue partner. It was a much smaller event this year just to preserve its 'annualarity'."

Any charity money raised by the teams was suggested was put towards the local charity Ladies Allowed.
