A coastguard team in Penzance was called out at the start of the week to assist other emergency services with a casualty in Penzance.

Penzance Coastguard Rescue Team, alongside South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust and Cornwall Air Ambulance was on the scene on Monday after a man was reported to have suffered a head injury.

The casualty was located at an area behind Penzance Bus Station.

Upon arrival, the casualty was assisted by the coastguard team and then handed over to the ambulance service.

In an update posted on its social media page, a spokesperson for Penzance Coastguard Rescue Team said: "We were paged by Falmouth Coast Guard Operations Centre to assist South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust and Cornwall Air Ambulance with a Male who had a head injury at a area behind Penzance Bus Station.

"We assisted with a carry out to the Ambulance for onward transport.

The rescue came a week after the coastguard rescue team posted a warning to residents and visitors about being safety aware while taking pictures around the Cornish coast.

In its warning, Penzance Coastguard Rescue Team said: "Stay 'focussed' on safety during your quest for the perfect picture at the coast.

"Be aware of your surroundings, especially on cliffs and around water:

"Take note of signs and ask about local hazards, stay back from the cliff edge and choppy seas.

"Keep an eye on your family at all times, never walk backwards, lean or stretch to get a better angle.

"Please don't put others in danger or take risks - no image is worth your last breath.

"But if you see someone in trouble at the coast, call 999 Coastguard."
