A schoolgirl from Helston has made it through to the national final of a modelling competition and will now compete for the ultimate title.

Lola Shaw will be competing in the final of the Junior Miss British Isles 2020/21 competition this Saturday, having already been named Junior Miss Cornwall.

At the weekend the 11-year-old will be travelling with her family to The Final Furlong Marquee at Chester Racecourse in Chester, where she will be one of 40 finalists offered the chance to take part before the judges, representing Cornwall.

Lola, who will be starting Helston Community College only a few days later, having just finished year six at Wendron School, said she loves fashion fashion and designing clothes she would like to wear, with her hobbies including swimming, surfing, sailing and horse-riding.

She also enjoyed dancing, singing and creating Tik Tok videos with her friends, and spending time with her Jack Russell Pebbles.

Lola first modelled for Helston-based clothing company Frugi between the ages of five and eight.

Her mum Jane said: "She very much enjoyed being in front of a camera from a young age, on location and in the studio. Now at the age of 11 she is wanting to start modelling again and hoping to develop her modelling career, signing up with the best agencies."

"She also wants to be a vet, so I said the money will come in very handy!"

If Lola wins the title she will receive a £1,000 cash prize, as well as the Junior Miss British Isles crown and studded winner’s sash.

She will also get to create a portfolio four photo shoots throughout the year, including one with her family and a day out with a friend at filming and selfie studios, along with official Junior Miss British Isles gifts and merchandise.

At the national final Lola will be up against finalists from across the British Isles including Ireland, Scotland, Wales and all across England.

She will be taking part in a catwalk show in front of the judges and audience.

Previous winners of Miss British Isles-organised events have gone on to be signed by top modelling agencies, taken part in major TV shows and even appeared in a Bollywood film.
