One section of the A30 remains closed this afternoon following the death of a man.

Police have given an update into the incident, after being called at around 5.20am this morning (Wednesday, September 1) after concern was raised for the welfare of a man found on the A30 near Illogan, Redruth.

Emergency services attended and the man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police have now revealed that he was aged in his 30s and local to the area.

His next-of-kin have been informed.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "The death is not being treated as suspicious."

The A30 was initially closed in both directions between Avers and Tolvaddon, and the Broad Lane overbridge was also shut.

This caused significant traffic disruption in the area, but it has now started to ease after the eastbound carriageway was reopened at around 12.15pm.

The Broad Lane overbridge has also reopened, at around 1.35pm.

Motorists were asked to avoid the area earlier, with the surrounding roads reported to be very busy, with slow traffic, as vehicles tried to find a way around the road closure during peak rush hour.

Traffic monitoring system INRIX reported congestion to routes through Pool as traffic diverted.

It has now updated to read: "A30 Westbound closed, slow traffic due to police incident between Avers Roundabout and A3047 (Tolvaddon).

"Congestion to routes through Pool and Redruth as traffic diverts.

"The westbound closure is likely to remain in place until later this evening.

"Diversion via the A3047 through Redruth."

National Highways South West has put out a diversion route.

It says: "The road has been closed due to an ongoing police led incident.

"Devon and Cornwall Police lead the response to this incident, Highways England have resources in attendance to assist with traffic management.

"Due to the seriousness of this incident the road is expected to remain closed throughout the morning.

"Westbound road users approaching the closure are advised to leave the A30 at the Avers roundabout, follow the A3047 through Pool, turn right and re-join the A30 at the Tolvaddon junction.

"If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey."
