Figures for new cases of coronavirus Cornwall remain on a downward trend as the weekend arrives, but there has been a further rise in deaths. 

It's as today’s daily new Covid-19 case figures in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly show 332 new people have tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours, from 374 yesterday.

The weekly total number of people with at least one positive Covid-19 test result (either lab-reported or lateral flow device) is on a five-day delay. The latest data shows a combined 2,523 people testing positive in the seven days leading up to last Monday, August 30 – a further fall on the 2,793 weekly cases reported yesterday.

It means the weekly case rate average has fallen to 438.4 cases per 100,000 people, compared to 485.3 yesterday and 668.8 cases as the start of the week on Monday. For this figure the government uses the mid-2020 estimates for the permanent population of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

The overall total of cases in Cornwall since the start of the pandemic now stands at 37,563.

The daily number of people testing positive for coronavirus in the UK shows 37,578 new cases compared to 42,078 yesterday.

This takes the total of cases since the start of the pandemic to 6,941,611.

NHS England no longer updates the number of hospital deaths at the weekend. In the most recent update, on Friday, the combined number of Covid-19 related deaths in total in the Duchy’s hospitals since the start of the pandemic remained at 294, following two new deaths reported on Wednesday - one at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust on Sunday (August 29) and the other at the Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust on August 7.

The total number recorded at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust since the start of the pandemic is now 230, while at the Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust it is 64.

However, the government update, which is updated daily, shows the overall number of deaths in Cornwall – including deaths in care homes and other settings – has risen by five new deaths, to 509 in the 28 days since a positive Covid case.

The number of deaths in Cornwall simply with Covid-19 on the death certificate is at 598 in the most recent data available. It shows that four new deaths occurred in the week leading up to Friday, August 20, the most recent date given.

The overall UK figures show that 129 more people have died within 28 days of their first positive test result.

Total UK deaths within 28 days since the start of the pandemic stands at 133,161. These figures include people in care home and other settings.

Up to Friday, September 3 a total of 48,205,585 people in the UK have had their first Covid-19 vaccination dose, while 43,251,037 have had their second dose.

In Cornwall it is 434,797 with their first dose and 398,862 with their second. The figures have now been updated to include those aged 16 and over, which accounted for 6,144 rise in the first dose vaccinations having been given up to Friday.
