HELSTON Harvest Fair wrapped up on Sunday with the Horticulture & Craft Show at the Old Cattle Market.

The show included a range of classes from flowers, fruit and vegetables to crafts, photography and children’s entries, as well as peg dolls made at the Krafty Kids sessions run at the Museum of Cornish Life on the last two Thursdays of August.

Helston Town Band played outside through the afternoon and there was a raffle, before the presentation of cups and trophies.

The big winners on the day were Sarah Warwick, who took home a total of five trophies including most prize cards in show and most points in show, and Mille Harris, who also won five. Not far off was Tom Christophers who won four trophies.

Best exhibit in the show was a cross stitch entry by Lisa Prout, as chosen by Pauline Eddy, who each year presents the Freeman Donald Eddy Memorial Cup in memory of her late husband.

Mayor Tim Grattan-Kane presented the prizes and thanked everyone involved in the organising of the show, as well as those who had entered.

He said: “I would like to thank you for all your efforts for entering, and to the committee for all your efforts getting Harvest Fair up and running again after the two-year gap. Looking at the exhibits that have been entered was absolutely wonderful.”

Exhibits were a little down last year on 2019, when the show was last held, with 630 entries compared to 900, which was a bumper year. This could be due to uncertainty over whether the show would be held, after the pandemic forced the cancellation of last year’s event.

Mr Grattan-Kane urged people to go home and encourage their friends and family to enter next year, to keep the show alive and flourishing.
