AN 'explosion' at a property near a school in Camborne this morning is being treated as suspicious, police say.

Emergency services were called to Cranberry Road near to Camborne Science and International Academy at around 8.37am after a flurry off 999 calls from the public about a house fire.

Roads were closed as four fire crews fought to bring the blaze under control.

The occupants of the property, including Pablo the dog, were unharmed in the fire which, police say, started in a shed.

In a statement Devon and Cornwall Police said at first it was believed the fire was started after some fireworks exploded, but this is not now thought to be the case. ]

It was now investigating the cause which they believe to be suspicious

"Police were called to reports of a shed on fire in Cranberry Road, Camborne at around 8.40am today [7 September].

"The fire service attended the incident and initially it was believed that some fireworks had exploded.

"Emergency services are still at the scene.

"The fire is being treated as suspicious and the cause is being investigated.

"No one was harmed in the explosion."

Roads around the area were closed at the time but these have now all reopened.

Following the fire, Camborne Science and International Academy thanked parents and carers for their support.

A statement issued on their Facebook page the school said: "We are pleased to inform parents and carers that Cranberry Road has been reopened and we have full access into and out of the school.

"The end of the day arrangements will continue as usual.

"Thank you to everyone for your support."
