The number of daily cases of coronavirus in Cornwall are continuing to drop, but six new deaths in the most recently weekly update were announced in today's figures.

Today’s daily new Covid-19 case figures in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly show 258 new people have tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours, slightly down from 263 yesterday.

The weekly total number of people with at least one positive Covid-19 test result (either lab-reported or lateral flow device) is on a five-day delay. The latest data shows a combined 2,255 people testing positive in the seven days leading up to last Thursday, September 2 – a slight drop on the 2,302 weekly cases reported yesterday.

It means the weekly case rate average has fallen to 391.8 cases per 100,000 people, compared to 400 yesterday. For this figure the government uses the mid-2020 estimates for the permanent population of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

The overall total of cases in Cornwall since the start of the pandemic now stands at 38,409.

However, the daily number of people testing positive for coronavirus in the UK shows 37,489 new cases compared to 41,192 yesterday.

This takes the total of cases since the start of the pandemic to over seven million at 7,056,106.

In the most recent update from NHS England the combined number of Covid-19 related deaths in total in the Duchy’s hospitals since the start of the pandemic has risen to at 297, following a further death on Sunday (September 5).

The total number recorded at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust since the start of the pandemic is now 233, while at the Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust it is still 64.

The government update, shows the overall number of deaths in Cornwall – including deaths in care homes and other settings – is now at 511 in the 28 days since a positive Covid case, including one in the last 24 hours. 

The total number of deaths in Cornwall simply with Covid-19 on the death certificate has increased to 604 in the most recent data available. It shows that six new deaths occurred in the week leading up to Friday, August 28, the most recent date given.

The overall UK figures show that 209 more people have died within 28 days of their first positive test result.

Total UK deaths within 28 days since the start of the pandemic stands at 133,483. These figures include people in care home and other settings.

Up to Monday, September 6 a total of 48,292,811 people in the UK have had their first Covid-19 vaccination dose, while 43,535,098 have had their second dose.

In Cornwall it is 435,270 with their first dose and 401,410 with their second.
