Cornwall singer Will Keating is heading to the St Ives September Festival following his double August Bank Holiday Sunday stint at the Cornwall Folk Festival in Wadebridge.

Falmouth-based Will hosted an afternoon ”in conversation” with Harry Glasson to mark the 70th birthday of renowned song-writer Harry - his inspiration and mentor – before performing his own evening slot on the FAR (folk, acoustic and roots) outdoor stage.

Joining Keating is Reg Meuross – rated by folk music icon Martin Carthy as “a mighty songwriter and an equally fine singer."

Festival organisers are expecting a big demand for the limited number of tickets for his appearance in the intimate surroundings of St Ives Arts Club on Wednesday, September 15. The breadth and depth of Reg Meuross’s material is unparalleled in contemporary folk: songs about forgotten heroes, famous names, folk legends, the climate emergency, tales from the kitchen sink and news from the world stage; if something needs to be sung about then Reg Meuross has a song for it.

The award-winning St Ives Jazz Club will be bringing four nights of top quality music to the Western Hotel during this year’s St Ives September Festival.

They will present Ian Shaw on Monday, September 13, Samba Azul on Tuesday the 14, the Family Band on Monday 20 and Nicolas Meier on Tuesday the 21.

Ian Shaw, described as “one of the most distinctive, original and creative jazz singers that the UK has produced”, has twice been voted Best Jazz Vocalist’ at the BBC Jazz Awards.

Over the years he has collaborated with the likes of Quincy Jones, Van Morrison, Georgie Fame, Cleo Laine, Kenny Wheeler, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Nigel Kennedy, Kurt Elling and The Who’s Pete Townsend and has toured with Abdullah Ibrahim, The Boston Pops and Cedar Walton.

Bryher's Boys, who delivered a half-hour performance in Wadebridge, are booked for a full evening at St Ia’s Church on Monday, September 20.

They currently hold the “yellow jersey” for ticket sales at the Church venue and Festival organisers are advising shanty fans to “book to avoid disappointment”.

Penzance-based band Du Glas are the third of the Cornwall Festival “super Sunday” performers booked for St Ives. They will appear at the Cohort Hostel on Saturday, September 18.

The full lineup and tickets can be found online at www.stivesseptemberfestival.co.uk and from tourist information centres throughout Cornwall. The festival is set to run from 11-25 of September.
