Ten times the number of clusters in Cornwall have seen Covid case rises than a week ago.

Last Saturday just three clusters out of 72 recorded a weekly rise in positive test results, with the remaining 69 all seeing falls.

Fast forward a week and in the most recent update from the government there are now 31 clusters that saw week-on-week case increases.

It relates to the seven days leading up to Monday this week, the most recent data available.

The better news, however, is that while the number of clusters seeing higher cases has increased, the overall number of weekly cases recorded continues to fall.

During that time Cornwall and Isles of Scilly recorded 2,226 new cases, which was 300 fewer than during the preceding week, marking an 11.9% decrease.

The case rate is now averaging 386.8 cases per 100,000 people, which is down on the 438.4 cases per 100,000 people shown last Saturday.

Camborne has taken the top spot as recording the highest number of cases in any one town, with 144 across its three cluster areas: Camborne West (44, up 17), Camborne South (46, up eight), Camborne East (54, up 22).

In Wednesday's midweek update Bodmin was at the top, with a combined 121 cases across its two clusters, but in the most recent data it is recording 110 weekly cases: Bodmin West (61, up 16), Bodmin East (49, up six).

Newquay, which previously was top for some time, recorded only 80 new cases across its two clusters (Newquay West 30 and Newquay East 50), although this was in fact one higher than a week ago.

However, Bodmin West has the highest number of cases out of any single cluster, at 61 - 16 more than a week ago.

Helston and Redruth South are equal in second place, both with 55. Helston saw a rise of 19 cases week-on-week, with Redruth South an increase of two.

Falmouth Packet:

The map shows positive cases by 'Middle Super Output Area' - the name the government gives to the break-up of larger towns and groups of neighbouring towns and villages, with groupings covering a greater area than others.

The minimum population in each area is 5,000 and the average is 7,200.

Clusters are only shown when there are three or more new cases reported at any one time.

Anywhere with between zero and two cases shows white in order to "protect the privacy of individuals and prevent disclosure", the accompanying information states.
