An NHS worker from Redruth has taken it upon herself to try to help those struggling with their mental health after two people sadly took their own lives on the A30 this month.

Jessica Clotworthy, whose work for the NHS revolves around mental health, is currently organising an event in which she, and anyone who wants to take part, will be attaching hearts with contact numbers of emergency helplines to as many bridges over the A30 as they can.

Jessica was moved to take action after hearing about the tragic suicides of two young men this past month and posted the idea to her social media page, which quickly gained traction.

In the online post, Jessica said: "I’m sure you have all heard the very sad news over the pervious weeks regarding the awful suicides of two young men I’m sure you’re all with me in wanting to reach out to those in crisis.

"I currently work for the NHS in the mental health department.

"We all know how super stretched the MH teams are down here in Cornwall so I wanted to try and help a little bit more.

"On Saturday the 18th September (location to be confirmed) myself and as many people as we can get, will be attaching hearts with contact numbers of emergency helplines to as many bridges over the A30 as we can to help those who unfortunately feel they can no longer carry on with their life, in the hope that they will reach out and get help before it is too late.

"I want to raise as much awareness as possible and get as many people involved to help save as many lives as we can, even if it just stops one person from leaving this life.

"I’m asking for people to share, help and take part in this event and hopefully make it easier to talk.

"Thank you all for reading this, and I hope to see you on Saturday."

Jessica will be making hearts that will have the contact details for support services included on them and has asked anyone that wants to take part to get in touch with her so she can forward on the hearts which can then be printed out.
